The history
A legacy built on history: the Colombo Swimming Club story
Colombo Swimming Club’s story goes back to the 1930s, a time when Sri Lanka was known as Ceylon. During this colonial era, the expatriate community yearned for a place to gather and connect as families. In 1936, this vision began to take shape with the formation of the “Colombo Amateur Swimming Club.” The Galle Face Hotel generously offered its saltwater pool for the club’s early meetings. Just two years later, a significant milestone was reached.

The iconic
storm lodge
“Storm Lodge” was acquired, and construction commenced on the very pool that would become the heart of the club. Officially opened in 1939 by Governor Sir Andrew Caldecott, this marked the transformation from temporary gatherings to a permanent haven for relaxation and social connection.
